In cases where the breast tissue has been completely removed, reconstruction can be performed using a tissue expander. This is a two-stage procedure. First, through an incision at the site of the previous surgical scar, a round, hollow tissue expander is placed under the tissue, and necessary repairs are made.
During follow-up outpatient visits, repeated saline solution injections into the reservoir located under the skin gradually stretch the skin, creating volume and projection. Once adequate expansion is achieved, a second surgery is performed to remove the tissue expander and replace it with a suitable implant, completing the final breast reconstruction.
