One method of breast reconstruction involves removing skin and fat from the lower abdomen and transferring it—along with its vascular supply—to the chest area where the breast was previously located. This procedure can also be performed using a free flap, where the tissue is completely detached and reconnected via microsurgical vascular anastomosis at the new site.
These techniques typically provide sufficient volume for breast reconstruction, allowing the breast to be rebuilt and shaped using the patient’s own tissue.
It is important to note that the lower abdomen will undergo incisions and repair similar to an abdominoplasty incision.
