In some women, one or both nipples may be inverted and pulled inward. Although this condition is commonly seen in many healthy women, the physician must examine and distinguish it from the presence of malignancy behind the nipple. In cases where no underlying disease is present, the inversion can be corrected through a surgical procedure to restore the nipple to its natural appearance.
